Bradley Grobler scored his first goal for Stellenbosch FC to secure a 1-1 draw with Sekhukhune United on Friday night. The late strike at Athlone Stadium earned the Maroons a point in the Betway Premiership.
Gavin Hunt's side had started brightly, with Sinoxolo Kwayiba and Raoul Daniels creating chances inside the opening ten minutes. The game remained goalless until the second half when Babina Noko put Stellenbosch ahead shortly after the restart.
Sekhukhune United levelled the match in the 63rd minute through Bethuel Muzeu, who was set up by former Stellenbosch striker Lehlogonolo Mojela. Grobler, who left Sekhukhune at the end of last season, then had the final say, converting an assist from Siviwe Nkwali three minutes from time.
The result leaves Stellenbosch 10th in the Premier Soccer League standings with six points from six matches. Their recent form reads one win, three draws and one loss from the last five outings.
The team has scored seven goals and conceded seven so far this campaign, with Quinton Plaatjies leading the scoring charts with three goals.
Stellenbosch now turn their attention to an away fixture against Kruger United at Mbombela Stadium in Nelspruit on 19 September. The full schedule of upcoming matches is available on our fixtures page.
Gavin Hunt will hope Grobler's maiden goal provides a spark as his team looks to climb the table. The draw extends their unbeaten run in the league to two games.
