Stellenbosch FC have completed the signing of midfielder Njabulo Blom on a season-long loan from Indonesian Super League club Borneo Samarinda. The 26-year-old South Africa international arrived in the Winelands on Friday and has been allocated the number 35 jersey for the remainder of the campaign.
The move was finalised ahead of Monday's transfer deadline, adding valuable experience to a squad sitting seventh in the Premier Soccer League with nine points from seven games. Blom brings a wealth of domestic and international pedigree, having previously played for Kaizer Chiefs in South Africa and for St. Louis City in Major League Soccer.
Njabulo Blom is a twice-capped Bafana Bafana midfielder whose career includes a notable stint in the United States. His background at Kaizer Chiefs means he is familiar with the demands of the South African top flight, while his time abroad adds a different dimension to his game. He is one of several experienced players, including Terrence Mashego and Bradley Grobler, to join Stellenbosch this season as the club looks to build on a recent run of form that reads two wins, two draws and one defeat from their last five outings.
Blom could be in line to make his debut for Stellenbosch in their next fixture, a key away match against his former club Kaizer Chiefs on 17 October. The Amakhosi currently occupy fourth place in the standings, making it a significant test for a Stellenbosch side looking to climb the table.
The player has expressed his excitement about the new challenge, stating he is looking forward to working under coach Gavin Hunt in what he described as a professional environment. Blom believes Hunt's demanding approach will help him improve and return to his best form. He aims to build strong relationships with his new teammates and contribute to the team's success for the rest of the season.
Stellenbosch will be hoping Blom's arrival provides a midfield boost as they prepare for the trip to face Kaizer Chiefs next month.
