Stellenbosch FC captain Sage Stephens says his side are ready to build on their recent victory when they travel to face Lamontville Golden Arrows on Wednesday. The Betway Premiership fixture kicks off at 19h30 at King Zwelithini Stadium in Durban.
Stephens reported that preparations have been excellent following the 3-1 win over Marumo Gallants earlier this month. "The intensity has been very high and the planning for the game has been superb," the skipper said. "I think we are ready for the game on Wednesday and, coming off a positive result against Gallants, the camp is positive."
Stellenbosch have taken four points from their last two matches after an opening day defeat to AmaZulu. They scored three goals in a draw away at Polokwane City before backing it up with another three against Gallants at home. Stephens highlighted the attacking output as a sign of growing confidence. "Scoring six goals in our last two games shows the work that is going on behind the scenes," he added. "The guys up front are doing well, so we just need to balance that a bit at the back."
The captain admitted some disappointment at not securing all three points in Polokwane, a notoriously difficult venue for visitors. However, he believes the team has used the extended break between games to address specific issues. "There are a few tweaks that are needed, and maybe some game management, but with the time we’ve had to prepare, we’ve worked on those few issues," Stephens explained. The win over Gallants lifted Stellenbosch back into the top half of the league standings.
